X-Men: Apocalypse director, Bryan Singer, officially announced via Twitter that Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner and Tye Sheridan have joined the cast as Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops.
With X-Men: Age of Apocalypse set to begin filming later this year, bits and pieces of begun to hit the news cycle lately. Last night the film's director, Bryan Singer, gave some huge official news by announcing the new faces of Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey to the world.
Storm will be played by Alexandra Shipp, best known for her portrayal of R & B star Aaliyah.
With Taron Egerton out of contention, the role of young Scott Summers/Cyclops, future leader of the X-Men, will go to Tye Sheridan (Mud).
Game of Thrones actress, Sophie Turner, likely the most well-recognized of the three, will take on the challenging role of Jean Grey, one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel stable and one of the most dangerous and destructive players on the board.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to take place in the 1980s and it appears it will focus on the First Class characters and these new, younger X-Men. X-Men: Days of Future Past gave FOX a chance to reset the board with Cyclops and Jean Grey, two of the most important X-Men who were taken out of continuity with the original X-Men films. It'll be interesting to see just how big of a part these young stars play.
