Netflix to Launch Marvel's Daredevil May 1st, 2015
Rumors have been around for some time now that Marvel would begin airing Daredevil, the first of its Defenders Netflix series on May 1st. It seems now we have a little bit of evidence to support those rumors.
The image below is courtesy of Bleeding Cool and it seems to provide crystal clear evidence that Marvel will release Daredevil on May 1st. The image is likely taken from a European Netflix account as a search for Daredevil in America does not provide a release date.
If that turns out to be the case, I think it's a wonderful idea by Marvel. Releasing the film the same day as Avengers: Age of Ultron seems to be a nice way to capitalize on the post-movie hype the most movie-goers experience. It's not unusual for fans to leave a Marvel Studios' film feeling like they can't wait for the next film and while this isn't a film, it'll give fans of the MCU something to go home and watch. Marvel could very easily cross-promote the film by running some sort of trailer or, better yet, having Charlie Cox appear briefly in the film or in post-credits and run a trailer. In fact, I imagine Marvel might try to do something similar with A.K.A. Jessica Jones and Ant-Man (I even wonder if, now that Krysten Ritter is cast as Jessica Jones, if she might not shoot a quick scene during pick-ups for Ant-Man and if Paul Rudd may not make a brief appearance in her series...I just wonder, is all).
I'm very interested to see how Marvel handles these characters in relation to the rest of the MCU. In some ways, it seems these shows are set up really well to co-exist with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I can also think of countless ways that Marvel can push the Defenders characters into the films in smaller doses that could lead to their appearances during the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.
