FOX's Gambit to Be Based on Treatment by Legendary X-Men Comic Book Writer Chris Claremont

FOX is officially moving forward with the Channing Tatum vehicle.
According to Deadline, Channing Tatum's solo Gambit film is now greenlit and will be based on a treatment done by legendary X-Men comic writer Chris Claremont, who helped create Gambit and many other beloved X-Men during his 16 year run on Marvel's Uncanny X-Men title.

Claremont's treatment is being worked into a screenplay by Josh Zetumer, who wrote the Robocop reboot, but will also likely make a pass through the hands of Simon Kinberg, FOX's shepherd for their cinematic universe.

While no story details or dates were given, it's been widely rumored that Tatum's Gambit, who was first played on screen by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, will appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse before we see him in a solo film. Following the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Tatum's Gambit will become the film's canonical version of the character with the majority of the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine wiped from the timeline.
