Crusher Creel, The Absorbing Man, to Face-off Against Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The cast of Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been expanding quite a bit in recent weeks and today Marvel revealed that Coulson's squad will come to blows with Crusher Creel, a long-time comic foe of Thor and the Hulk!
Carl "Crusher" Creel will apparently show up in the first episode of Season 2 to face-off against Coulson and his small band of ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as they attempt to rebuild. Creel will be played by Brian Patrick Wade (Teen Wolf) according to the official release from Marvel.com. Wade joins Adrianne Palicki as new members of the cast announced this week.

This news follows some news the other day that now makes a whole lot more sense.  Project Workbench caught Wade filming his scenes as Creel the other day, but interpreted him as a Kree. Now we can see that what's actually happening here is Creel absorbing the metal of the bullet he was shot with, resulting in his arm turning silver/grey. Check out the videos below.

While most people associate Creel with the Hulk, whom he did battle many times, his origins are Asgardian in nature as it was through drinking a concoction of Loki's making that he gained his unique abilities. Creel has also battled the Avengers and Daredevil among others, so it's possible that we may see him crossing over into other media. Creel's inclusion also makes me wonder if the show is headed even further down the road towards Secret Warriors, a comic series that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has mined very often already, as Creel's son, Jerry Sledge, was one of Nick Fury's Secret Warriors known as Stonewall.

While it's been noted that Nick Nolte's character in Ang Lee's Hulk film was basically the Absorbing Man, it's important to note that Kevin Feige has stated that film is NOT part of the MCU canon.

This is a yet another pretty cool character straight from the pages of the comics added to this season, something that the show was roundly criticized for last year. What thoughts do you all have about the way Season 2 is shaping up?
