Yesterday Latino-Review passed on the first lightly-spoiled review of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Using that review as a guide, I've pasted some screenshots from the two trailers into a sort of storyboard of events.
Keep in mind, I haven't seen the film and this is a best guess; however, it was something I did for myself and decided to share it with those of you who might be interested in such a thing.
While the film starts on Earth with Quill as a youngster, it will move into a scene that's becoming very familiar to us. Quill, now an adult, has located an ancient temple which holds inside the films MacGuffin: the purple Power Stone.
We find out pretty quickly that Quill is not the only one in pursuit of the stone. Korath, a Kree warrior, is out to acquire the stone and give it to his boss, Ronan, who has worked a deal with Thanos for the orb. The deal: Thanos gets the orb and destroys Xandar for Ronan, who has long hated the Xandarians.
Korath finds Quill in the already well-quoted scene, but Quill escapes death a couple of times and gets off-planet with the Power Stone.
These shots and where they fit in are a bit of a puzzle to me at this time. I feel like the first couple may come early on as Thanos appoints Ronan as his deputy. It seems Ronan is being handed his Universal Weapon by Nebula. The last two shots might be from the time in the film were Ronan goes to see Thanos after having failed to gain the orb. Alternately, they could come from almost any other time in the film!
Quill heads to Xandar with the orb with the intentions of fencing it, but when the dealer finds out what it is, he passes. At this point, Groot, Rocket and Gamora, who are out for the bounty now on Quill's head, team up to snag him. I believe the photos below show Rocket pointing a big-ass gun at Quill while Groot attempts to sneak up on him and throw him in a bag!
A brawl ensues that gets the four of them nabbed up by the Nova Corps, who make their home on Xandar. This leads to the majority of the very well-viewed prison scenes at the Kyln (I'm not sure if they Kyln is on Xandar or off-planet), including the escape. At this point they will team up with Drax, who actually has his sights set on killing Gamora, forming an uneasy alliance long enough to get the orb to The Collector, who they feel will undoubtedly pay big bucks for the Power Stone, and so they head off in the Milano to Knowhere.
Thanos' minions are now on the hunt for the crew and I believe they narrowly miss them at the Kyln. The still below, which clearly shows Nebula in the prison, may be here getting information out of a Nova Corpsman before tracking them to Knowhere.
The Guardians head to Knowhere and meet with The Collector, who informs them just what they have and how powerful it is. We know from the character descriptions we got from Stitch Kingdom that The Collector attempts to strike a bargain with the Guardians. However, there are a few people out to get Quill and the Orb at this point and they arrive on Knowhere looking to put the hurt out. From here I think the crew escapes with the orb and heads BACK to Xandar to set up a plan with the Nova Corps to keep the Power Stone from Thanos. As for The Collector, he may get interrogated by Ronan and he certainly will have his sacred collection violated.
Now the Guardians of the Galaxy, the crew lands back on Xandar and convinces the Nova Corps that they have a plan. We've clearly heard that they don't think it's a good one.
However, just when they seem ready to hatch the plan, Ronan, with a crew big enough to do plenty of damage to Xandar, arrives. At this point much of Xandar will be destroyed, but I don't think it's the extinction even, though I do believe it will happen.
I've said for a while now that I expect that things don't turn out roses here for the Guardians. I do believe Thanos will come into possession of the Power Stone. We know he's going to get them eventually and we know Ronan isn't going to die. Not every film can have a rosy ending for the heroes if we're going to get the ultimate showdown with Thanos.
It's possible that the first photo below shows Ronan using the Infinity Stone to wipe out Xandar, which I fully expect to happen. It's also possible that the second photo below, taken from today's new TV spot, is from the same spot in the film and shows our Guardians in great peril. Following the events on Xandar, I do believe Rhomann Dey will escape the destruction, carrying with him the last remnants of the Nova Corps (the Worldmind or whatever device they chose to use in the MCU). Will we see him go to Earth and pass on the duties to Richard Rider? It's seeming more and more likely that we will see the Terran Nova in the future.
Keep in mind, this is just a bit of fun and speculation. Odds are high that my read on things is way off. Either way, the film is just around the corner now!
