Dominic Cooper's Howard Stark Set to Appear in Agent Carter

While it hasn't been officially confirmed by Marvel, Haley Atwell seems to have let the cat out of the bag concerning Dominic Cooper's involvement with the upcoming Agent Carter series on ABC.

Most fans have anticipated that Dominic Cooper, the actor who has portrayed Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger and in the Agent Carter One-Shot, would have a role to play in the upcoming TV series given his role in the creation of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, the organization that would later become S.H.I.E.L.D. Haley Atwell has all but confirmed that role in an interview with The Telegraph.

It seems Atwell has begun to develop quite the reputation as a prankster among her colleagues and she told The Telegraph that she couldn't wait for Dominic Cooper to arrive on set so the games could begin: “He’s incredibly naughty,” said Atwell. “So I’m going to start the pranks as early as I can. He will come up with some very good ones, too.” Atwell went on to assure Tim Walker, the journalist with whom she interviewed, that she would record as many of her pranks as possible for his website.

While this isn't shocking news by any stretch of the imagination, it is welcome. Cooper is a fine actor and, by all accounts, has had a great relationship with Marvel and a lot of fun in the role of Howard Stark. The inclusion of Howard Stark in the series will only serve to deepen and enrich the property and the historical narrative of the MCU. I'm really anticipating Agent Carter, which is slated to run as an 8-episode bridge between the two halves of the second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., because it has so much to add to the MCU. With the exception of Captain America: The First Avenger, the Agent Carter One-Shot and some flashbacks here and there in the Iron Man films and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we don't have a lot of historical background on the characters and organizations which are a part of the story. This series gives the opportunity to tell a lot of stories through the eyes of Atwell's Peggy Carter.

Agent Carter is set to premiere sometime in the winter of 2014-15 on ABC.
