VIDEO: X-Men Producer Lauren Shuler Donner CONFIRMS Channing Tatum as Gambit in Future X-Films
It isn't often news like this breaks in such a nonchalant way, but while talking to Total Film about future projects, Lauren Shuler Donner dropped the news that Channing Tatum will be taking on the role of the card-slinging Ragin' Cajun, Remy LeBeau.
Now, I know it's the cool thing for dudes to rip Tatum, but I don't mind the guy at all. He's grown on me over the years (especially in 21 Jump Street) and I'm willing to see how he does as one part of a bigger whole. While Donner didn't confirm it, it's likely that Tatum will first show up as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse as director Bryan Singer has hinted at adding Le Diable Blanc, along with Nightcrawler and possibly a new Cyclops and Jean Grey. If all this is playing out as it sounds, it seems Fox is really getting their X-universe poop in a group.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Tatum's first appearance as Gambit will be in X-Men: Apocalypse and will be followed up with a solo Gambit film. I'm not a huge Gambit fan, so the solo film isn't super exciting for me, but I know a LOT of X-Men fanboys love them some Gambit, so hopefully Tatum kills it. No word on what the film will be, but Fox has been developing a Gambit film for years now and you'd have to think it'd show some of his origins and time with the Thieves' Guild.
