Ever since our first glimpse of the Mad Titan in the mid-credits' scene of Joss Whedon's The Avengers, nerds have been debating just who should be cast to play the part in future MCU films. Today, we got our answer and it's one that is sure to please the majority of hardcore fans. Josh Brolin (Oldboy, The Goonies and No Country for Old Men) will be Thanos!
Latino-Review, led by super-duper-Latino-scooper, El Mayimbe, has been riding a hot streak lately with Marvel rumors. Today, El Mayimbe's colleague at Latino-Review,Kellvin Chavez, broke the big news that Josh Brolin had landed the major role. Shortly thereafter, the scoop was confirmed by The Wrap's Jeff Sneider, cementing the fact that the boys at Latino-Review do work.
Conflicting reports are out there, but what is certain is that Brolin will be the voice of Thanos in this August's Guardians of the Galaxy. Word is that Brolin completed the work already and has also done some CG work. While some rumors claim that Thanos will make an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Badass Digest's Devin Faraci and HitFix's Drew McWeeney, both of whom have stellar track records in all things Marvel-related, both vehemently deny it, stating that Thanos, and the entire Cosmic corner of the MCU, won't be mainstreamed until Avengers 3.
While the depth of Thanos' involvement in Guardians of the Galaxy has been top secret, it's been said repeatedly that he will have more than a cameo in the film. While many fans are clamoring for more Thanos, it's a clever move for Marvel to keep Thanos at the fringes as a growing threat, building towards a major showdown with all the players on the MCU board somewhere down the line. When he does face off with the heroes of the MCU, Brolin will be perfect fit for the Mad Titan, known for his long-winded philosophical diatribes. This is another wonderful piece of casting by Marvel, who despite some bumps in the road last week, still has it together.
