VIDEO: Promo for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 1.18, "Providence"

With the past two episodes serving as a frame to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is now playing on a totally different field. After the jump, catch the promo for next week's episode, "Providence", which will feature comic characters Glenn Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) and Eric Koenig (Patton Oswalt).

If you haven't seen the past two episodes or Captain America: The Winter Soldier yet, you may want to take it easy on the promo. Needless to say Marvel has really upped the ante the past several episodes and things seem to only be getting better.

From the looks of it, Talbot and the U.S. Army will be hot on the heels of Coulson's team and Koenig, an old ally of Coulson's, will be helping them out. Keep in mind that next week's episode airs at 9 PM Eastern following the re-airing of this week's episode.

The episode is also set to serve as the introduction to comic villain Blackout, whose story will play out over at least 2 episodes with his introduction coming next week ahead of full appearance the following week. Blackout is actually the name of 2 Marvel villains but, it seems this one, played by Patrick Brennan, will be Marcus Daniels, who first appeared as an antagonist to Richard Rider's Nova, not the demonic Blackout. Daniels was part of the classic comic book lab experiment gone awry and was introduced to an extra-dimensional energy known as the Darkforce. Brennan, who has already appeared as other characters on a couple of episodes of the show, told Marvel.com about this character:
This guy, Marcus Daniels, a.k.a. Blackout, was shrouded in darkness, his soul, everything about him was shrouded in darkness until he comes across this Cello player. And the music was the only light that came into his soul, and it gave him hope and it gave him some sense of what light was. I thought to myself, oh my god, you don’t even need to explain anything else. Because music, to me, is what gets me through most of the time. My kids, my wife, and music. That aspect of it totally intrigued me. I thought that was quite beautiful and very interesting, that aspect of the character.

The cello player, of course, is the infamous cello player referenced in The Avengers as the love interest of Agent Phil Coulson. That cello player, played by Amy Acker (above), will make her appearance in Episode 19. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is definitely trending upward and will hopefully fulfill my prophecy that it's ultimate sum would be worth more than it's parts.
