Michael Pena in Talks to Play Commie Villain in Ant-Man

On the heels of yesterday's announcement of Michael Douglas as Dr. Henry Pym in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, the rest of the cast seems to be rapidly falling into place. Today up and comer Michael Pena (American Hustle) is rumored to be joining the cast as one of two main villains.

Earlier today Variety reported that Michael Pena, who I most associate with the Mark Wahlberg film, Shooter, was in early negotiations to join Ant-Man in an unspecified role. That rumor has been backed up by just about every site on the internet and now, Billy the Kidd at This Is Infamous has posted an exclusive in which he reveals the role which it is believed Pena will be taking on in the 2015 film.

The site reports that Pena will be playing a non-canonical character named Castillo based on Fidel Castro and will serve as the main adversary of Dr. Pym in the 1960s. It seems that the reports of Pym's superhero activities being a secret from the rest of the world will play out in this film and that it will be an older Pym, played by Douglas, that we see in modern day when Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) takes over the mantle of Ant-Man.

This Is Infamous also adds that the film will have a second villain as part of Scott Lang's arc, but that it appears Pena's Castillo will play a large role in the entire film. Well...this one keeps getting further and further down the rabbit hole but there's no chance I write off a film directed by Wright and starring Douglas and Rudd. Rudd is one of my absolute favorite actors and I haven't seen a bad Edgar Wright film yet. I'm EXTREMELY curious as to who the antagonist for Lang will be and EVEN MORE curious as to just who Rashida Jones or Bryce Dallas Howard are. The Variety piece mentions that they are rumored for the daughter of the second lead, which would mean Pym. Pym did have a daughter in the comics, but she was more of The Next Avengers style of character...we'll see!
