Two Sony Executives Confirm Plans in the Works to Expand Spider-Man's Universe

In separate events reported by The Wrap and Deadline today, Sony executives Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton both confirmed that Sony is developing scripts to bring more characters Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel Universe to life.  Hit the jump for details.

Pascal, the Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chairman, first spilled the news during a meeting with investors during which she said,"We are going to access Marvel's full world of Spider-Man characters, so be on the lookout for new heroes and villains."

Later in the day, in a Q & A session with the investors, Lynton who is Sony Pictures Entertainment's Chief, reiterated that notion, "We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man. There are a number of scripts in the works." Lynton went on to add that Marvel and Disney are working closely with Sony in the development of the projects, though he did not name which projects were being developed.

I can see the internet running with Lynton's last comment about working closely with Marvel; however, I don't believe for one second that it means we'll be seeing the studios crossing over or loaning out characters. I do believe it means that Kevin Feige, who was an executive producer of The Amazing Spider-Man, will continue to work closely with Sony in the development of their films and projects.

While this almost certainly means we will see a Venom spin-off, there are plenty of other very interesting characters closely associated with Spider-Man, including other Spider-Mans. With Felicia Hardy rumored to be appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it goes without saying that The Black Cat absolutely needs to be one of these characters. I need to know what she does when she isn't doing what she does...

What characters from Spidey's side of town are you looking forward to seeing developed?
