Ant-Man Director Edgar Wright Comments on Casting His Film

Casting rumors for Marvel's first Phase 3 film, Ant-Man, seem to have slowly come to center on Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones, whose name was first mentioned by our friends over at Superhero Movie News, being front-runners for the lead roles of Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. Multiple sources around the Googleverse all seem to be hearing the same buzz about the roles and have been for some time which is typically a good sign that someone knows something.  Collider recently caught up with the guy who knows the most about the film, Ant-Man's writer and director, Edgar Wright, and while talking to him about his last movie, The World's End, checked in with him about the casting rumors.

Collider reporter Matt Goldberg asked Wright if the recent casting rumors about the upcoming superhero film were on track. Wright replied, "No, none of them are completely was off, but I don't know where they come from. I think sometimes, occasionally...I don't know where they come from. I think sometimes it's actually someone themselves starting the rumors because then...yeah. The rumor becomes kind of fact...I don't know." Glad he cleared that up.  Wright continued, "Some of them are way off. But the truth is we don't start filming until the end of May, so people on Twitter need to stop asking me, 'When are you going to announce casting?' Like they're angry! It's like, 'The film comes out in 2015. Chill out."

So what to make of that...Wright is pretty tuned in to all things modern; he's a very clever and thoughtful guy and he knows the score here. This is as close to a confirmation from him or anyone at Marvel as you're going to get.  Of course, there's plenty of time for things to fall apart in the casting of Rudd and Jones as the movie won't start filming until May, but I'd say that, at least for now, it's safe to start thinking of Paul Rudd as Hank Pym!
