While we still don't have a the big picture of just what to expect on a weekly basis from ABC's new show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, there is still a lot of hype surrounding the series which kicks off next Tuesday. Most of that surround the return of Agent Coulson and the revelation of just how he is able to return. For my part, I've been excited about the idea that just maybe they might give us a glimpse of some of the cooler parts of the Marvel universe that maybe don't translate to well to the big screen but that might be nice pieces of a weekly serial. Today, Marvel revealed the following synopsis for the third episode in the series and it revealed a familiar name:
"The Asset" – When the brilliant scientist, Dr. Franklin Hall, is kidnapped, Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents must race against the clock to locate him. Skye is their only way in--pushing the team to their limits when the entire plan turns upside-down--on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Dr. Franklin Hall is one of those cool characters that probably does not fit on the big screen but could easily make an interesting return to show in future episodes. Dr. Hall eventually becomes the semi-super-villain, Graviton after an accident gives him the ability to mentally manipulate the Earth's gravity force. While I expect there is no way one episode will explore his entire arc, I would be we will see Dr. Hall back at some point, if not semi-regularly. He provides some pretty cool challenges for the Agents and may even require some big boy back-up.
This is the kind of thing I want from this series...just expanding the MCU and exploring parts that would otherwise be left out. Thanks, Marvel, for raising my level of anticipation.
