Super-duper-Latino scooper, El Mayimbe, has been teasing us all weekend that he's got some major scoops heading our way this week; hopefully this isn't one of them but it is interesting for a couple of reasons. According to El Mayimbe over at Latino Review, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed up to join the cast of Avatar for the first sequel, scheduled to hit theaters in 2016 with two other sequels to follow in 2017 and 2018.
This reunites Arnold with director James Cameron and the two have had some pretty great collaboration in the past (dun dun dun dun dun). In addition to the first two Terminators, Cameron and the Govahnatah worked together on True Lies which is one of the most rewatchable movies of the 90s. I'm already looking forward to see what Cameron does with the Avatar franchise as I enjoyed the first one quite a bit despite it just being a rehash of Dances with Wolves or Pocahontas or The Last Samurai or any number of other stories just like it.
I'm also interested to see what role Arnold plays here. Obviously the humans are coming back to Pandora and, I expect, Arnold will lead the charge. I wonder, however, if he'll be in all 3 sequels or if it's a one off.
At any rate, news is news and it's good to see Cameron moving forward with the Avatar franchise. As always, I'll update as updates become available.
